Rehearsal

Nobody only watches. Choose the position you registered for, then step through the day: what happens, what you do at that moment, and the one rule you keep from the door at 09:00 until the positions are dissolved at 16:40.

Before the day

Prepare

    Arriving

Monday 9 November 2026, Lecture Hall, Department of Journalism, Stellenbosch.

Officials 08:40 · presenters 08:30 · everyone else by 09:00. The door stays shut after the advertised start: that is part of the day.

Nothing to bring. Your ticket is given at the door. Not registered yet? Join the audience by Friday 30 October.

    Care, plainly

    • The waiting is staged, never punitive. Officials act only on their cards; nobody improvises unkindness.
    • Step out at any moment by turning your ticket face-down. You need not explain.
    • Everyone is fed, whatever their form says. Declared allergies and religious dietary needs are met with labelled food; if you did not declare one, tell any official.
    • The 11:30 paper concerns unidentified human remains and searching families. No graphic images are shown.
    • The day is filmed for a documentary. Filming consent is separate; take a no-camera marker at the door and the camera will leave you alone.
    • There is no question time. Questions are filed on slips or on the debate wall, and answered there in writing after the day.
